RADFORD, Va. --
In conjunction with Radford’s Fall softball tournament, the Highlanders held their first RU Softball Alumni Game. Six former Highlanders laced up the cleats for the first time since their respective graduations. Along with the game, the alumni were present to celebrate Radford receiving its programs’ first ever 2009 Big South Championship ring.

“What a great event,” said head coach Mickey Dean. “For our first alumni event/game, it could not have gone any better. We were able to have former players celebrate in the receiving of the programs first ever Big South Championship Ring. We just wanted to be able to celebrate with all of those who were responsible for the continued growth of the softball program.”

Lara Wohlgemuth (2001, 2003-05), Ashley Smith (2002-05), Tina Rogers (2000-03), Cassie Rhodes (2005-08), Ashley Carlson (2005-08) and Michelle Carlson (2005-07), along with assistant coaches Loren Messick and Katy Lampman, a pair of RU staffers and junior Kellie Snooks made up the alumni squad.

In a highly competitive five-inning contest, the current crop of Highlanders squeaked out a 2-0 victory.

“Everyone is already looking forward to and planning for this event next fall,” Dean said.
