NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Radford's Mary Wiley (Radford, Va./Radford) was named the Big South women's soccer freshman of the year, while seniors Jackie Cozza (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) and Jill Boyer (Severn, Md./Old Mill), and sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) earned all-conference honors, announced by the league on Wednesday night.
Cozza was a first team All-Big South honoree, Lubke was a second team-pick, Boyer earned all-academic honors, and Wiley was additionally named to the all-freshman team.
Wiley is the third Radford player to earn the conference's rookie/freshman of the year honor, and leads the team in scoring with five goals and an assist (11 points). Before suffering a season-ending injury on Oct. 24 against Liberty, Wiley had three goals in Big South play, including the game-winners against UNC Asheville (Oct. 2) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 10).
Cozza earned conference honors for the first time in her career, having started in the midfield in each of Radford's 18 games heading into the tournament. A four-year starter, she assisted on Wiley's game-winner against Charleston Southern last month.
Lubke, a Big South honoree for the second time in her career, has a 1.12 goals-against average and four shutouts, while stopping 81 percent of the shots she's faced this year. Lubke was named conference player of the week on Oct. 6, posting back-to-back shutouts for the Highlanders on Big South opening weekend (Oct. 2-4).
Boyer earned a spot on the all-academic team for the second straight year. A media studies major and a starter on defense in each of Radford's 18 games, she holds a 3.7 overall grade-point average.
Radford opens defense of its 2008 Big South tournament title as the sixth-seeded team on Thursday (Nov. 5), facing the third seed and host Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.
