Radford Earns 16th Seed and Draws North Carolina in First Round of NCAA Tournament

RADFORD, Va. – Coming off its second Big South Tournament title in school history, Radford was tabbed the South Region's 16th seed and will take on top-seeded North Carolina (28-4) in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament Thursday at 2:50 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
Game times for the 32 first round games will be announced Monday. The tournament will be televised live on CBS Sports.
The winner of Radford's first-round matchup will advance to face the victor of the game between eighth-seeded LSU and ninth-seeded Butler.
Making just their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 1998, the Highlanders have won 17 of their last 19 contests and enter their contest with the Tar Heels 21-11 overall.
In its only previous trip to the NCAA Tournament, Radford fell in a South Region first-round game to top-seeded Duke 99-63 on March 12, 1998 at historic Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.
The Big South Conference is 2-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
