
Big Performances Mark Day 1 For Track & Field at Winthrop/Asics Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Junior Raschad Kelso's (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox) 200m school record and freshman Aimee Veatch's (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) first-place hammer throw toss highlighted Radford's performance on Friday at the Winthrop/Asics Invitational at Irwin Belk Track on Friday evening.
Kelso, who notched three new school sprints records during the indoor season, re-wrote the record book for the first time during the outdoor season with his time of 21.46, besting the previous best of 21.52 (Paul Hall – April 1, 2006).
Veatch, the reigning Big South women's field athlete of the week, topped her career best in the hammer throw event with a toss of 56.75m, good for first place. Her throw was nearly 10 meters than the second-place finisher in the field. Veatch, who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regionals with her performance at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 13th, had a previous career-long of 54.79.
Both Kelso and classmate Olajuwon Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./Speedway) qualified for Saturday's 200m finals. Jones posted a time of 22.09.
Kelso also moved into the finals of the 100m dash, clocking 11.08.
Senior Jovan Coker (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) qualified for the 400m finals with a time of 49.39.
Highlighting field events for the Radford men was the second and third place finishes of seniors Matt Dobson (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) and Jordan Purvis (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) in the hammer throw. Dobson's toss was 55.83m, and Purvis checked in at 51.64m Dobson also posted a third-place mark of 15.37m in the shot put.
