RADFORD, Va. – Just days after Athlon Sports released its college basketball preseason predictions, Lindy's Sports also picked Radford to repeat its 2008-09 Big South title run in its 2009-10 College Basketball Preview.
The Highlanders return four starters from their 2008-09 NCAA Tournament club that finished 21-12 and 15-3, while becoming the first team in Big South history to win the regular season title after finishing seventh the year before.
Along with being selected to win the league title for the third time in school history, Lindy's Sports voted Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) Preseason Player of the Year, while fellow seniors Amir Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Quaker Valley) and Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) also earned a spot on the publication's preseason all-conference squad.
Parakhouski was also tabbed the Big South's “Best Rebounder” and “NBA Prospect”, while Johnson was selected the league's “Best Playmaker”.
Lindy's Sports picked UNC Asheville to finish second ahead of Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. Winthrop was predicted sixth followed by last year's regular season and tournament runner-up VMI. Presbyterian, High Point and Liberty rounded out the preseason poll.
