RADFORD, Va. – For the third time this season, Blake Smith (Charlotte, N.C./United Faith Christian) of the Radford men’s basketball team has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 25-31, as announced by the league office Monday.

"Blake is becoming more consistent and more confident,” said Radford head coach Brad Greenberg. “He is having a strong freshman season and has the potential to become one of the better guards in the league as he further develops his game.”

For the week, Smith averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals, while shooting 49 percent (17-35) from the floor and 48 percent (9-19) from behind the 3-point arc.

After scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting at James Madison last Monday, Smith scored a season-high 23 points with four rebounds, four assists, three blocks and seven steals in Radford’s win at Gardner-Webb. Smith’s seven steals were just one shy of tying the school’s single-game record.

The 6-4 shooting guard capped his week with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two more steals at UNC Asheville Sunday.

Radford will conclude its four-game road trip and stretch of six games in 13 days with a 7 p.m. tip at VMI Tuesday evening.
