WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Radford women’s tennis team increased their winning streak to five by sweeping the doubles matches and winning two out of the last three singles matches to claim a 4-3 win over Howard Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Howard University Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders improve to 7-3 overall, while the Bison drop to 4-3 overall.
Radford swept the doubles matches to begin play with a 1-0 advantage.
Mirna Matic (Umag, Croatia/Vladmir Gortan, Buje) and
Ivana Tomaic (Zagreb, Croatia/Third Gymasium, Kuslanova) defeated Brittney Morgan and Alyssa Works, 8-5 at No.1 doubles.
Mia Drobnjak (Zagreb, Croatia/Sporska Gimnazija) and
Sara Tegner (Amal,Sweden/Karlbergs Gymnasium) sealed the doubles point for the Highlanders with an 8-4 win over Ashley Moore and Michelle Brown at No. 2 doubles.
With the doubles point already in hand,
Petra Dajevic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija ) and
Emerald Lauzon (Bristol, Va./John S Battle) defeated Michele Gee and Anne Akhimien, 8-6 on court three.
In singles action, Radford took a 2-0 lead with Matic defeating Gee 6-2, 6-2 at position No. 4.
With the match tied at 2-2, Drobnjak pushed the lead in favor of the Highlanders with a 6-4, 7-6 triumph over Brown on court No. 1, then Dajevic closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Morgan at No. 3.
The Highlanders return to action March 21 against George Mason at 11:00 am.
