For the second straight season, Radford matched its highest finish in school history as the Highlanders placed fourth at the 2010 Big South Women’s Golf Championships.

The three-day/9-team event was played on the Par 72, 5,956-yard The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor layout.

As a team, the Highlanders concluded the event at 929 (304-309-316), just four shots behind Winthrop (313-295-317 = 925).

Along with matching their highest Big South Championship showing in school history for the second straight season, the Highlanders’ 54-hole total bettered their previous conference best by 22 strokes.

Radford also finished the 2009-10 campaign with the lowest team stroke average (317.8) in school history.

Senior Megan Leineweber (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) led Radford on the individual leaderboard finishing tied for 11th. The all-conference performer shot four-over 76 Wednesday to record a 230 (72-82-76).

Jade Okamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) came home one back of Leineweber to place 15th, while Hannah Coles (Birmingham, England/The Coleshill School) recorded a three-day total of 235 (75-79-81) to finish 21st.

Also competing for the Highlanders were Amy McCollum (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) and Maggie Watts (Paris, Ky/Paris), who finished tied for 28th (79-81-82 = 242) and 34th (90-76-79 = 245), respectively.

Charleston Southern (294-296-291 = 881) claimed the team title by 23 strokes over top-seeded Coastal Carolina (303-301-300 = 904), while the Buccaneers’ Olivia Higgins finished one-under par to win individual medalists.

Radford concluded its season under second-year head coach Jeff Beeler with three Top-5 finishes and five Top-10 showings.
