WOMEN'S TEAM FINISHES SIXTH AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Radford women’s track and field team closed out the 2010 Big South Championships with a sixth place overall finish at Bagwell/Settles Track and Field Complex Saturday.

The Highlanders finished with 56.50 points, 14 points out of fifth place.

As a team, they posted 28 personal-bests and six school records over the championship weekend.

Senior Brittany Christian (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) was honored for her work in the classroom and on the track being named to the Big South All-Academic team.

Aimee Veatch (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), the 2010 hammer throw champion, hit a distance of 38.40m (126’0” in the discus to finish seventh. Veatch would have captured the ACC title in the hammer throw by two feet with her toss of 58.01m (190’4”).

On the track, Britney Whittaker (Pilot, Va./Radford) ran a time of 2:16.94 in the 800m to finish fifth, while her teammate Maggie Wissler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) clocked in at 2:19.32 to finish ninth.

Senior Lori Crotts (New Castle, Va./Craig County) crossed the finish line in fifth place in the in the 5,000m with a time of 18:01.08. Kayla Christian (New Kent County, Va./New Kent) posted a ninth place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.43.

The quartet of Whittaker, Shanae Harris (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield), Wissler and Cori Tedesco (Chester, N.J./West Morris Central) placed fifth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:01.45.

In the 4x100m relay, Whittaker was joined by Christian, Caronda Bond (Richmond, Va.) and Lindsey Noe (Goldvein, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) as they placed seventh with a time of 51.42.

Elsewhere on the field, Kaylor Christian hit a personal-best distance of 11.21m/ (36’9.50”) to finish sixth.

The Highlanders will be back on the track May 14 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
