NINETY-SIX, S.C. – Wade Wawner (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) fired an even-par 72 as Radford sits tied for fourth following the opening round of the 2010 Big South Men’s Golf Championships Monday.

The three-day/8-team event is being played on the Par 72, 7,079-yard The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor layout.

Wawner will enter day two in eighth place, while Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va./James River) is one behind the freshman in a tie for ninth after a one-over 73.

Red-shirt freshman Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) contributed to the Radford scoring with a 76, while Michael Wade (Floyd, Va./Floyd) is tied for 24th after a five-over 77.

As a team, the Highlanders recorded a 298 and are tied with Charleston Southern, just one behind High Point (297).

Coastal Carolina holds the top spot on the team leaderboard by five strokes over Winthrop following a two-under 286.

Presbyterian’s Matt Sizemore carded one of seven sub-par rounds Monday and leads the 40-player field at seven-under par.

The second round will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. The Highlanders will be playing in threesomes with Charleston Southern and Liberty beginning at 8:50 a.m.
