RADFORD, Va. –
Brittany Christian (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) of the Radford women’s track and field team is one of 12 students to be honored with the Outstanding Student Award.
Christian is a two-time recipient of this award. She carries a 3.96 grade point average and is majoring in chemistry and mathematics.
“Brittany is a remarkable young woman on the track and in the classroom,” commented head coach Brent Chumbley. “Radford University could not pick a more deserving person for this award.”
Christian was also named to the Big South All-Academic team for her work in the classroom and on the track
Christian posted a personal-best time of 11:03.33 and bested the nine-year-old mark of Kara Price by seven seconds. The race had been close from the start, it wasn’t until the last 50-meters that the lead runner finally pulled away from Christian.
About the Outstanding Student Award
The Outstanding Student Award is the most prestigious award that can be bestowed upon a Radford University student for excellence in academics and leadership. This award is presented to students who have excelled in promoting the true spirit and ideals of Radford University.
Students must be nominated for this award by faculty, staff members, or other students. They must meet the minimum GPA requirements of a 3.2 for freshmen, 3.3 for sophomores, 3.4 for juniors, 3.5 for seniors, and 3.7 for graduate students.
Students must have made a positive contribution to Radford University both academically and in three other major areas of achievement. These can include: contributions to the community, published paper, conference or workshop presentation, role in a university production, participation in student government, athletics, leadership, or substantial time commitment to RU or the community.
The award is a coveted award; for, up to 13 students may receive the Outstanding Student Award each year, and each is carefully selected by the Student Awards Committee for their achievements. The students have amazing credentials, unbelievable leadership, and have taken the initiative to reach their highest potential here at RU and within the community.
