Martins Abele
7-1, 290, C
Saldus, Latvia/Oak Hill Academy
What They're Saying About Abele…
“Martins is a developing center with great size. He has made steady progress the last two seasons and has the potential to become an important player for us at Radford. This past season he was a member of one of the nation's best high school teams – Coach Steve Smith's Oak Hill Academy Warriors – and helped them to a 29-4 overall record and No. 6 Ranking in the Country. As a junior he played at the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Va. for Coach Bill Ramsey. Those experiences, the training he received from Mareks Bajars, his youth coach in Latvia and his desire to improve, give him a strong foundation we hope to build on. We are excited to have him join our team.” – Radford Head Coach Brad Greenberg
“Martins is a great kid with great potential and a tremendous work ethic. He will be a solid addition to Coach Greenberg's program at Radford University.” – AAU Coach Boo Williams
Jonathan Edwards
6-8, 205, F
Queens, N.Y./Life Center Academy/Tyler Junior College (Tyler, Texas)
Accomplishments (Life Center Academy)
Rated one of the Top-20 players in the state of New Jersey as a senior … Selected to the Eastern Invitational Top-20 All-Star squad … A two-time team captain … Averaged a combined 17.5 points, 8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 blocks per game in two seasons with the Eagles.
Accomplishments (Tyler Junior College)
Averaged 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in two seasons ... Helped lead the Apache to a combined two-year record of 42-17 and a berth in the 2009 Region XIV semifinals.
What They're Saying About Edwards…
“Jonathan Edwards is a skilled inside-outside forward with a good feel for the game. He handles the ball very well for a 6-8 forward. He can drive the ball, is a solid passer and has a nice touch around the basket. He has the quickness to defend the perimeter and the length to guard inside. We were looking for an experienced frontcourt player to compliment our young returning frontcourt players and fellow junior college signee Masse Doumbe. Jonathan has played the last two years at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, for Coach Mike Marquis on a very good team for a very good coach. He's a fellow New Yorker, so I am especially happy to bring a player to Radford who appreciates my accent.” – Radford Head Coach Brad Greenberg
“Jonathan is a terrific person and a very good player. He fell in love with Coach Greenberg and the guys on the team. Not only will this program be a good fit for him, he'll be a great addition to Radford University.” – Tyler Junior College Head Coach Mike Marquis
