RADFORD, Va. –
Courtney Stewardson, a former graduate assistant at Delaware, has been named assistant volleyball coach at Radford University, head coach Marci Jenkins announced Monday morning.

“I am very excited about what Courtney will bring to the program,” commented Jenkins, who is entering her third season at the helm. “She has played and coached in two very successful programs, and has been mentored by one of the top coaches in our field.”

Stewardson will assist in all aspects of the Highlander program.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Radford volleyball staff,” said Stewardson. “I look forward to working with Marci and continuing to build on what she has accomplished here.”

Stewardson, a 2008 graduate of Furman University, just completed her second season as a graduate assistant with the University of Delaware volleyball team.

In 2008, Stewardson worked closely with Delaware’s setters, helping the young group eventually lead the Blue Hens to the program’s second straight CAA championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

She joined Gary Lee, who helped the Hens win the 1992 North Atlantic Conference title, as the only Delaware volleyball coaches to win a conference crown in their first years with the program.

Stewardson, a native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, completed her undergraduate work in the field of health and exercise science. At Delaware, she recently received a master's degree in educational leadership.

While at Furman, Stewardson was a standout setter for the Paladins during her four-year career. A two-time All-Southern Conference selection, she led a potent offense that ranked first in the league in hitting percentage during her junior and senior seasons.

On an individual level, she finished second in the SoCon in assists-per-game during each of her last two seasons. As a junior, she posted a 12.46 average before notching an 11.89 mark during her senior campaign. She capped her career in third place on the school's all-time assists list with 4,572.

A graduate of Apple Valley High School in 2004, she led her volleyball team to two top-five finishes in the state tournament. An All-Conference honoree as a senior, Stewardson also was named to the All-State team during her final year at Apple Valley.
