ATHENS, Ga. -- Radford’s
Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia/Oroslavje Secondary School) will face Saketh Myneni of Alabama in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Singles Championships Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
The winner of the Salec/Myneni match will face the victor of Guillermo Gomez (Georgia Tech) and Moritz Baumann (Wisconsin) in the Round of 32, Thursday.
The 64-player singles championship and 32-team doubles championship, hosted by the University of Georgia will take place May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Ranked 79th in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, Salec received the automatic bid by being the league’s highest ranked player.
A three-time all-conference selection, Salec holds a 16-6 mark at the top position. The three-time Big South Player of the Week and 2008 Big South Freshman of the Year, enters the NCAA Tournament having won 16 of his last 18 matches, including 13 in straight sets.
During the fall season, Salec defeated the 4th, 12th, 39th, 50th and 73rd ranked players in the country at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
This year marks the fifth straight season a Highlander has been selected to take part in the NCAA Championships as Martin Sayer advanced the previous four, including a berth in the doubles championships with partner Zack Watson (Timberville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) a year ago.
