Complete VaSID University Division Baseball Team
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Radford sophomore designated hitter
Matt Hillsinger (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) earned his second post-season accolade, a first team spot on the VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors) University Division all-state baseball team.
A First Team All-Big South selection, Hillsinger was again recognized for his breakout season in 2010 after finishing third on the team with a .348 batting average along with two homers, 36 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and a team-high six triples.
Hillsinger went from hitting .276 while starting in 18 games in 2009, to batting .348 in 48 starts, serving as the full-time designated hitter. He opened Big South play with a bang, posting back-to-back three hit games with four triples against UNC Asheville (March 19-20), and drove home the winning run with a ninth-inning walk-off triple in the first game of the series. His back-to-back games with two triples tied a school record for triples in a game.
Hillsinger had 23 multi-hit games, second on the team, had 10 multi-RBI games and carried a 14-game hitting streak during the 2010 season.
