Colombo, Sri Lanka – On the heels of putting Hong Kong up 2-1 with a singles and doubles victory in the opening rounds, Martin Sayer secured his country’s monumental Davis Cup upset with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sri Lanka's undisputed champion Harshana Godamanne Sunday at SLTA Courts.

The Davis Cup tie ended 3-2 in favor of Hong Kong and Sri Lanka will be once again relegated to group 3 in the competition.

Sayer opened the Relegation Playoff with a convincing straight-set (6-3, 6-2, 6-0) win over Sri Lanka’s Dineshkanthan Thangarajah on day one before teaming with Yu Hiu Tung to upset Harshana Godamanna and Rajeev Rajapakse, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, in the doubles yesterday.

With the Sunday’s clinching victory, Sayer improves to 8-1 all-time in Davis Cup singles competition and 15-3 overall (7-2 Doubles).
