RADFORD, Va. -- Radford will host its second annual alumni game on Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. The game will be in conjunction with the University's family weekend and will be held at the RU Softball Field.
Alumni will lace up their cleats and take on the 2010-11 edition of the Highlanders in a friendly game of softball. There will also be a cookout and gathering after the contest.
This will be a great opportunity for former teammates to catch up on old times and relive the glory years, while getting a chance to meet the current crop of Highlanders, who are coming off their second straight Big South Championship and first trip to the NCAA Regional finals against Georgia.
"We take great pride in our softball family," said assistant coach
Katy Lampman. "This event recognizes all the hard work that has been put in to make this a successful program and it allows to share those accomplishments with our alumni."
Along with the game, Radford will honor its 2010 championship team and recognize individual accomplishments by it most recent seniors;
Hope Creasy (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) (Big South Woman of the Year) and
Sarah Himan (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) (2010 All-Region) as well as the 2010 Big South Female Athlete of the Year Kristen Shifflett , who is entering her senior season.
Joining Himan on the all-region team last season were Shifflett, Creasy and senior
Shannon Keefe (Lemont Township, Ill./Lemont).
