BOURNEMOUTH DRAW
BOURNEMOUTH, Great Britain -- Former Radford men’s tennis standout and four-time Big South Player of the Year Martin Sayer and his younger brother Nicholas, who will join this Highlanders this fall, will meet in the finals of The 89th Bournemouth Open Saturday.
Martin, the event’s second seed and 2008 champion, advanced to the men’s singles title match with straight-set wins over Stephen Winrow (6-3, 6-2), No. 15 Joshua Bourke (6-1, 6-1), No. 11 Matt Frost (6-4, 6-1) and No. 4 Christopher Helliar (6-2, 6-1).
Nicholas, the event’s defending champion, set up the All-Sayer finals with four straight-set wins of his own, including an upset of top-seeded Tim Hewitt in Friday’s second semifinal.
Radford’s all-time leader in singles victories, Martin is entering his second season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, while Nicholas signed with the Highlanders in May.
