AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Radford right-handed reliever
Abram Williams (Radford, Va./Radford) has been selected as the Recover Sports Grill Amsterdam Mohawks Player of the Year for 2010.
The Mohawks closer was one of the elite finishers in New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) history, tying the Amsterdam record for saves with 11 in a season. Williams was the final pitcher for the Tribe in 18 games, leading the league in games completed. With the league hitting just .127 against him, a win was almost a sure thing when he took the hill.
Only 13 batters reached against Williams all season, compared with 30 batters who went down on strikes against him.
The electric righty is slated to begin his junior year at Radford this fall.
Four of Williams’ saves came in outings of more than three outs. He also pitched two innings to finish off a 5-0 victory against Glens Falls. In Kyle Hunter’s near no-hit performance in July, Williams recorded the final out of the game to secure the 1-0 win for Hunter.
