RADFORD, Va. – The Radford Cross Country teams will use the VMI Cross Country Relays as their 2010 season opener at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Va. beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.
The race will consist of three relay teams of two runners each. Each runner for the women will complete two 1.5-mile distances and the men will run two two-mile stints, handing off to the next runner after completing their relay leg. Each runner will complete two legs in the competition.
The Radford men look to improve on a sixth place showing and the women hope to improve on a fifth place performance at last year’s Big South Championship.
Both Highlander teams will be very young this year, as 12 runners are underclassmen.
“We’re a very young team and we already have a couple injuries that are plaguing us,” said head coach Sean Bossman, “So we’ll be shorthanded going out there tomorrow. I just want to go out there and compete and see my freshmen step up.” said head coach Sean Bossman.
