DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a 13-save effort from Radford junior Sidney Encarnacion, a 57th-minute goal by Davidson's Annie Evans lifted the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over the Highlanders on Friday evening from Belk Field.
Davidson (8-10, 5-2 NorPac East) held a 14-2 advantage in shots and earning eight corners, the teams went into the break scoreless thanks to nine saves by Encarnacion including a penalty stroke in the 22nd minute. Junior Alayna Versage also chipped in with her fourth defensive save of the season.
The Highlanders earned a late penalty corner, but the initial shot was saved and the rebound blocked.
Ten minutes into the second half, Radford had several offensive chances with six shots and three corners during a five-minute span. However, the Highlanders were unable to find the back of the cage as Sarah Fisher made three of her four saves and Maddie Parrish recorded a defensive save.
The Wildcats struck seven minutes later at 56:59 with the contests' lone goal as Evans' lifted shot was deflected past Encarnacion for the game winner.
Freshman Stacey Mackintosh charted a team-best three shots for the Highlanders (2-16, 2-6), who was edged by one goal for the fifth time in league play.
