COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE FOR WOMEN’S TENNIS

RADFORD, Va. – Trailing 3-1 with three matches to play, Radford rallied before falling, 4-3, to North Carolina Central in a nonconference women's tennis dual Tuesday afternoon at the Radford University Tennis Complex.
The Eagles (12-8) claimed the 1-0 edge following doubles competition. The tandem of Gemma Valls and Taylor Fay dispatched Brianna Gatson and Julia Aguilar, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles. NCCU responded with wins on courts one and two to secure the doubles point.
Freshman Allison Michael quickly answered at No. 6 singles by blanking Aguilar in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to tie the match at 1-all. The visitors reeled off back-to-back victories at the first and third flights to reach match point.
However, Fay had other plans as she extended the dual thanks to her 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Mia Ramic at No. 5 singles. Despite Valls winning at the two spot (6-4, 7-5) over Ekaterina Nekrasova, the Eagles clinched the win at No. 4 singles.
RU will now focus on the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, which begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the seventh-seeded Highlanders battling 10th-seeded Presbyterian College.
