ROCK HILL, S.C. – Just a few hours after clinching the match for Radford in the first round of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, sophomore Taylor Newman was named to the all-academic team Wednesday evening as announced by the conference office at its annual awards banquet.
A 2012 ITA Scholar-Athlete, Newman hauls in her first Big South accolade. A 4.0 student-athlete double majoring in journalism and Spanish, Newman earned a spot on the 2011-12 Radford University Presidential Honor Roll and is a three-time Dean's List honoree.
In addition to her academic success, the Bethesda, Md. native worked her way to the No. 1 singles spot for the Highlanders. Newman was unbeaten for nearly a month while she put together an eight-match win streak.
“Taylor is so deserving of this honor,” head coach Bruce Harrison said. “Her dedication in the classroom has led her to be a 4.0 student. I am very proud of her.”
