VOLLEYBALL ADDS TO ITS 2013 INCOMING CLASS

RADFORD, Va. – Christine DeVries, Kelby Jackson, Megan Short and Emma Wroblicky have signed National Letters of Intent to play volleyball for Radford announced head coach Marci Jenkins Tuesday afternoon.

The latest signees join Rachel Flores, Megan McKenzie and Jordan Watson, who signed in the fall, to comprise Jenkins' seven-player incoming class.

“We are thrilled to add four more student-athletes to our incoming class,” Jenkins said. “Our staff has addressed our needs at each position with this class. We are excited for them to become Highlanders and help us improve our program.”

Devries-20130528
CHRISTINE DEVRIES
5-7  |  Setter  |  Durham, N.C.  |  Riverside

In addition to leading Riverside to conference championships in 2010 and 2011, DeVries sparked the Pirates to the sectional championship in 2011. DeVries earned all-conference accolades her sophomore and senior years. In three seasons, she tallied 1,388 assists en route to earning the coach's award her junior year and MVP her senior campaign.

Jenkins on Devries: Christine is an athletic, quick setter. We are glad she decided to be a part of our program. She has a solid club background and is well-trained at the setter's position.

Jackson-20130528
KELBY JACKSON
5-5  |  Defensive Specialist / Libero  |  Winchester, Va.  |  James Wood  |  Northern Virginia

Jackson anchored the backline for the Colonels en route to first-team all-district honors her junior and senior seasons, including first-team all-region accolades at libero her senior campaign. She finished off her final season with James Wood as a Group AA all-state honorable mention recipient.

Jenkins on Jackson: Kelby is a great student, player and person. In addition to her incredible work ethic, her ball control and competitive nature will be welcomed in the fall. Look for her to compete for immediate playing time starting in August.

Short-20130528
MEGAN SHORT
6-4  |  Middle Blocker  |  Arlington, Texas  |  New Mexico  |  TAV 17 VBRags

After finishing her career as the all-time block assists leader at Lamar High School, Short went on to play for the University of New Mexico Lobos. Short was a three-time, first-team all-district honoree and was named District 4-5A Blocker of the Year her senior season. She was selected to the 2011 Fort Worth Star Telegram Super Team and was a TGCA Alternate East / West All Star in 2011. Short played on Ping Cao's TAV 17 VBRags club team that claimed the 17-Open National Championship in 2010.

Jenkins on Short: Megan brings us much needed depth in the middle. She brings collegiate experience with her, having played in the Mountain West Conference the last two seasons. At 6-4, her size and athleticism will allow her to compete right away for playing time.

Wroblicky-20130528
EMMA WROBLICKY
5-5  |  Defensive Specialist / Libero  |  Irvine, Calif.  |  Northwood  |  Saddleback Valley

A first-team all-league selection for Northwood, Wroblicky played a vital role in the Timberwolves advancing to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) volleyball tournament during her four years.

Jenkins on Wroblicky: Emma comes from a long line within her family who has played libero in college. She is the youngest of four girls and currently has a sister who has been the starting libero at Auburn University the last two years. The training and experience she has received from Saddleback Volleyball Club should help in her transition to the collegiate game. Another great person and student, she will look to compete right away for court time in the fall.

“Overall, our 2013 recruiting class has shaped up to be a very good one,” Jenkins said. “Combined with our 12 returners from last season, we are vey excited going into the fall!”
