RADFORD HITS THE ROAD TO ELON FOR MIDWEEK MATCHUP

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Elon was briefly a member of the Big South conference from 1999 to 2003 before they left for the Southern Conference (SoCon). They are now a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)
  • Wednesday's contest marks the third and final game of the Highlanders' early season road swing
  • The Phoenix are coming off a busy weekend in which they played three games in three days as part of the Black & Gold Shootout
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Radford and Elon have met 12 times with the Highlanders holding an 8-4 advantage in the series
  • The first meeting between the two programs came on December 24th, 1997 and Radford won the Christmas Eve contest, 86-59
  • Radford hosted the Phoenix in the Dedmon Center last season and earned a 68-56 victory
  • Ed Polite, Jr. and Justin Cousin paced the Highlanders with 14 points each in that game. Polite added 15 rebounds to secure a double-double

  • The Radford offense has been extremely consistent, posting point totals of 72, 72 and 73 through three games. The team only averaged 65.3 points per game a season ago
  • Redshirt freshman Carlik Jones is leading the team in both points per game (14.3) and assists per game (2.3)
  • Defense has been key to early season success. The Highlanders rank second in the Big South with only 70.3 points allowed per game thus far
  • Hitting the offensive glass and creating second chance points have been an emphasis and it shows. Radford leads the Big South in offensive rebounds per game with 14.0
  • Head Coach Mike Jones and his staff have gone with three different starting lineups through three games
  • The Highlanders' bench has outscored opposing benches by a combined tally of 123-51
 
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
  • Record: 3-3 (0-0 CAA)
  • Elon men's basketball was picked to finish third in the 10-team Colonial Athletic Association
  • Junior forward Tyler Seibring was tabbed Preseason First Team All-CAA while senior forward Brian Dawkins earned Preseason Second Team All-CAA
  • The Phoenix are a high-scoring team, posting 80.2 points per game on a .451 shooting percentage
  • Elon is also a strong rebounding team, pulling down 41.3 rebounds per game
  • Fast starts have been a trademark of the Phoenix so far this season as they outscore opponents 240-208 in the first half
  • Junior guard Dainan Swoope leads the team with 16.7 points and 3.5 assists per game
  • Senior guard Dmitri Thompson plays even bigger than his 6-4 frame and leads the squad in rebounds with 6.8 per game
