The Radford University spirit teams include the cheerleading squads, the dance team and the pep band. Each group is charged with building school spirit at athletic events, especially basketball.
Cheerleaders
The cheerleading teams consist of varsity and JV squads. The main purpose of RU Cheer is to lead the Radford faithful in support of the Highlander teams. Their passion helps make the Dedmon Center one of the toughest places to play in the Big South Conference.
RU Rockers
Radford's dance team, the RU Rockers, was one of the first dance teams established in the Big South Conference. With a long history of providing energetic performances, both at home basketball games as well as some selected away games, the Rockers provide an exciting atmosphere for Highlander fans.
Mascot Team
The Highlander is Radford University’s fearless and loveable mascot, forever supporting RU's teams. The Highlander is big and strong but also is available to greet any of RU’s fans with a hug or friendly high-five. You can find the Highlander at almost any event taking place on campus and he appears in quite a few places beyond the friendly confines of RU.
Pep Band
The Radford pep band adds the true collegiate feel to home basketball games. The band performance traditional and recent music selections to charge the crowd into supporting the basketball teams.
